Trek sites reviewed

Saturday, April 30, 2005

The holidays are on its way and all start planning for some tour. Discussion start and everyone settles down for a trek. But where to go? And how to go? These are basic questions everyone faces.
Open up the World Wide Web and you get dozens of sites giving information about treks. Which one should we believe? Well, you trust me? Then here is the answer.

{I} http://www.trekshitiz.com

kshitiz

Homepage of Kshitiz group, Mumbai.

Ins:
* Detail info about lots of trekking spots along with their history and different
ways to reach.
* Information also available in Marathi.
* Maps of forts is very special feature of this site.
* A user discussion forum is nice place to know more.
* Special section for rock climbing, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
* Forts sorted according to different categories such as district, range, difficulty
level and alphabetically.

Outs:
* Image titles are many times not matching with the image.
* Sometimes fort appearing in one list (eg Districtwise list) does not appear in another list (eg Rangewise list).

Overall Rating: 8.5/10

{II} http://deepabhi.tripod.com

deepabhi

Personal trek-page of Abhijit and Deepak.

Ins:
* Short but accurate information of some important and common trekking places.
* Few but fantastic photographs (Blame it to Abhijit’s photography J )
* Regionwise maps and also the special GPS map of Harishchandragad.
* A list of many forts in Sahyadris can be useful for further trekking on our own.

Outs:
* Very few of the forts have been covered.
* Not updated so frequently.

Overall Rating: 6/10

{III}http://trekdi.tekdi.org

trekdi

Trek’di group Pune (They call it Trek Encyclopedia).

Ins:
* Good user Interface.
* Announcements for regular treks organized by the group are posted online.
* The guys are always just a phone call away to help you.
* Tekdi Eco Portal is the best place to discuss everything about trekking.

Outs:
* Still under maintainance. So very few of the forts have been covered.
* The trek announcements are many times not updated.

Overall Rating: 4/10

IV} http://www.geocities.com/sta_pune

sta_pune

Ins:
* Many little known places have been covered.
* Good user interface.

Overall Rating: 5/10

V} http://welcome.to/chakram

chakram

Too busy to post

Hi folks
These days, being session of our exams, I don't get much time to post.
This post, I prepared 3 days ago but couldn't post it.
So, posting today...

It rained a lot today. These rains remind me of my childhood when I used to enjoy the panoramic view of rains through home window. I always wanted to go out and enjoy the rains. But due to health problem, was never able to.
Now, I do all these things I missed in childhood. Go and get wet. Welcome the rains with arms wide open. Let the rains feel good to shower you with diamonds of water drops.
Today, Abhijeet told me he wants to get wet and I just wanted someone to accompany me. We went on terrace of hostel and enjoyed rains for a long time.
These rains reminded me of the Tikona trek we enjoyed in heavy shower and also the Sudhagad trek where I enjoyed best rains till now….
Expecting some more thundershower to satisfy me desire…..

Best trek till date.....

Saturday, April 23, 2005

Many of my friends ask me which is my best trek till date..
And i get confused each time someone asks me..

Peb was my first trek.
Heavy rains made the Tikona trek great.
Sudhagad was first trek i organised.
Katraj-Sinhagad was my first night trek.
Tung-Lohagad was also never forgettable experience due to the unusual way we used for climbing lohagad.
The dense forests of Vasota were unmentionablly great.. Also it was my best organised trek (I think so)..
And the beauty of Harishchandragad and Konkankada: well, no doubt about it.
I will always remember Vispaur for the unplanned night stay without food and water at the top.
First visit to Lohagad will be remembered for the "Suhana Mausam"...
Tung: This fort always played hide and seek with me and i got it finally in third attempt..
And also many more treks remaining to mention..

Well, here lies te biggest confusion.
Whch of these should i mention as best trek?

My fellow trekker friends, do you face similar kind of confusion when someone asks you about your best trek?
Now i pass on this question to all my fellow trekker friends.
Which one will you rank as your best till date?

The Developer Studio can really do magic...
Umesh : Can we use that to develop the photo-negatives?

Ramu : why are u wiping ur terminal very often with a cloth?
Somu : clear command is not working properly for my terminal. that’s why?

Babu : yesterday I bought a new TV whose terminal is compatible with

Gopu : may be its compatible only with dumb terminals???

Vani : We have shifted our home to Pune now..
Soni : right shift or left shift??

Kannamma : do u have Design Specs for brinjal sambar?
Ponnamma : u mean recipe..?

Ramu : Somu, I am going to file a case against my landlord yaar. He's harassing me too much.
Somu : What case? Upper Case or Lower Case?

Vanish : Hey.. why is that sardaarji inserting a cover into the floppy drive?
Bull : He wants to send an e-mail it seems! (E-mail == Empty mail)

Essay on a cow.....

Tuesday, April 19, 2005

This is the FUNNY essay on "The Cow" which was (supposedly) written by some student in the course of completing the "Indian Civil Services Examination" :

CALCUTTA's Telegraph has got hold of an answer paper of a candidate at the recent UPSC examinations. The candidate has written an essay on the Indian cow:

The Cow:

"The cow is a successful animal. Also he is quadrupud, and because he is female, he give milk, but will do so when he is got child. He is same likeGod,sacred to Hindus and useful to man.But he has got four legs together. Two are forward and two are afterwards.

"His whole body can be utilised for use. More so the milk. What can it do? Various ghee, butter, cream, curd, why and the condensed milk and so forth. Also he is useful to cobbler, watermans and mankind generally.

"His motion is slow only because he is of asitudinious species. Also his other motion is much useful to trees, plants as well as making flat cakes in hand and drying in the sun. Cow is the only animal that extricates his feeding after eating. Then afterwards she chew with his teeth whom are situated in the inside of the mouth. He is incessantly in the meadows in the grass.

"His only attacking and defending organ is the horn, specially so when he is got child. This is done by knowing his head whereby he causes the weapons to be paralleled to the ground of the earth and instantly proceed with great velocity forwards.

"He has got tails also, but not like similar animals. It has hairs on the other end of the other side. This is done to frighten away the flies which alight on his cohoa body whereupon he gives hit with it.

The palms of his feet are soft unto the touch. So the grasses head is not crushed. At night time have poses by looking down on the ground and he shouts his eyes like his relatives, the horse does not do so.

"This is the cow."

P.S.: We are informed that the candidate passed the exam

I got it !!!

Monday, April 04, 2005

Thanks to Ritesh, I have an account at Yahoo 360 finally. Will post more about it soon, but for now, because you are a regular visitor to my blog, I cordially invite you to join my network at yahoo 360 degrees!

Leave a comment, if interested. :)

One quick note though, its not like Orkut. Its more of a keeping-in-touch-with-your-friends-and-family sort of social networking site. But its nice and they promise alot in the future.

And I have only 99 invites left!
