AntiTrust
Finally I saw Antitrust. It’s really a good movie just as I had heard about it. It’s basically about the competition between NURV, the giant of software business and open source. It seems quite similar to Microsoft and open source. I was wondering if whatever shown in movie really happens. Does Microsoft really use the ways shown in movie to setup their monopoly in the business? Are the computer engineers who don’t help Microsoft really killed?
Well, what is shown in movies is not always true. But there can be some similarity. What you say guys?

Windows Firewall for Internet Connection
Wednesday, June 22, 2005
Windows XP comes with a firewall known as the Internet Connection Firewall or ICF. ICF provides only inbound protection-unlike a full-fledged firewall, it only monitors incoming data. To turn on ICF, go to the Control panel and select Network Connections. Right-click on the displayed connection, and click on Properties. Under the Advanced tab, you can enable ICF. While the default settings may work fine, you may want to tweak the settings. Click on the Settings button to access all the ICF features and settings. You can fine tune the network services under the Services tab, set logging details under Security Logging, and details about ICMP under the ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) tab.
Do you need it?
Keep in mind that ICF is for use only with a direct connection to the Internet, such as a dial-up or cable modem connection. This means that computers connected to the Internet through a LAN, or Internet Connection Sharing (ICS), or a hardware router doesn't need an ICF. Moreover, you may tend to have some trouble with networking other computers on a LAN, as File and Printer Sharing services are blocked. It would make sense to disable the ICF, if you intend to use File and Printer Sharing services that would be essential in a LAN environment. To disable the ICF, go to the Control Panel, and select the Network Connections. Open this and right-click on the desired connection, click on Properties and under the Advanced tab, disable ICF.

Go trekking
Tuesday, June 21, 2005
Hello all
I didn't tell you what I did after exam. So here I go...
I did 4 treks after exam..
Tikona on 9th
Sarasgad (Pali) on 15th
Katraj to Sinhagad on 18th
Nilkantheshwar on 20th...
Every trek was great in itself.. We were 8 guys for Tikona night trek and 3 for Sarasgad. We were 18 for K2S but 5 of them went back after 2 hills as one guy Abhishek got asthma attack..
I can't forget the 50 feet rockpatch in Tikona and also Sarasgad, the first trek with Hooman (An Irani guy in my class) will be always in my memories..
The big group in K2S will be always placed in my memories of treks..
Nilkantheshwar was li'l fast and unplanned but it turned out very well. The lot of statues at the temple are just great and they will definitely make you stay there for quite a lot of time... Will post the photos very soon.. Till then, stay connected

Black Friday
Saturday, June 18, 2005
Hi friends..
If you see at my latest seen movie, there is a surprising entry..
Its "Black Friday". The movie has been banned ad won't appear on screen for atleast some days..
But the CDs were and still are being distributed in the market.
One of my friend got hold of one such CD and I saw the movie on his comp.
The movie seems to be a documentry rather than movie. Its definitely worth a watch.
Anyways, I'm leaving for Katraj-Sinhagad trek tonight..
Had Tikona night trek and Sarasgad trek last week.
Will give you detailed report of all these treks very soon..

How lack of testing can mess up things
Saturday, June 11, 2005
BOB (Bank of Baroda) recently started new GUI for their ATM.
When you try to withdraw money, you get two options after giving amount. The options are "Correct" and "Incorrect".
If you click on correct, you won't get anything. But if you click on incorrwect, the cash comes out of machine...
Now that's what i call as Lack of proper testing.... :)

Fort Cleanup Campaigns
Friday, June 03, 2005
This is a post I recently put on Tekdi Eco Portal. I hope someone of my readers will take interest in the issue.
The fort cleanup campaign started with Harishchandragad and currently no progress in it..
Let's start the cleanup process at individual level also..
What to do:
1) Clean all mess you can see and you can clean on all forts you get to visit
2) Try to discuss the isuue with local people
3) Cleaning the names and other things written on walls of fort and temples
4) Also marking the route with arrows can be done without any extra efforts
Points to discuss:
1) Which forts need the cleaning most
2) How to remove the names from walls (Method to be used, chemicals for the same)
3) How to cleanup the area more effectively (With less efforts)
4) Any other issues ?
So, let's start discussing..
No doubt Sinhagad is highest priority on cleaning process, but it will require big workforce.
Other forts in the queue are Commonly visited forts such as Harishchandragad, Lohagad, Tikona..
Also Visapur needs to be cleaned the names written on walls of temples..
Tung is all clear (I think so)
Vasota I visited few days back and is in very good condition (maybe because not visited by common people)
Can we undertake these drives in monsoon?
I don't think so..
But we can atleast cleanup the names on inner walls of temples..
Guys, please give your suggestions
Only we can bring out the change in the situation.....
